Updates on Margaret
Wednesday, 9th February
Arrived back home at 1.30 pm. by hired transport.   Margaret seems to be much stronger today and has managed the somewhat tricky stairs at home.   Alan Shaw is also getting about better, so the anxiety is reducing.   Daily updates may no longer appear, but further information will be added when appropriate

Gill visited Margaret yesterday (a round trip of over 200 miles from Epsom) and found her to be recovering well.   Gill said that Margaret was active (probably too active, but we expected that) and had eaten.   Alan is also on track to recovery.   I hope to see them in the next few days.
Saturday 19th February
I drove Dorothy and Anne to see Margaret yesterday and we were surprised and delighted to discover that she had much improved.   Both Anne and I thought that she was better than we had seen her for 7 or 8 months.   Ignoring the fact that she was obviously intent on making things appear as "normal" as possible, she was moving actively and ate just what we did (which was intentionally not a lot!).   She was climbing the stairs well and there was no sign of jaundice.   Things are not as good with Alan who is extremely weak, particularly in the leg department.   On Thursday night he dragged himself up almost two flights of stairs and was totally unable to manage the last step.   Margaret was forced to phone a friend in the village at 11.15 pm and they eventually got Alan on to his bed. While we were there yesterday (he remained in his bedroom all day) Alan 'phoned a stair-lift company and a representative arrived 90 minutes later to take measurements and photographs.   Anyone familiar with the two flights, which are very narrow, not far from vertical and with two right angle turns and overhead beams that aren't far above nose height, might consider that this would be a job for NASA.   I hope that they may be able to overcome the challenge.   Ann Henman will be seeing Margaret on Wednesday and I will get a further update from her.
